With a killer on the loose, it's the worst time to be on lockdown…
It's just another day at the office for Washington Metro Police lieutenant Sam Holland when a body surfaces off the shores of the Anacostia River. But before Sam can sink her teeth into the new case, Secret Service agents seize her from the crime scene. A threat has been made against her family, but nobody will tell her anything—including the whereabouts of her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano.
This isn't the first time the couple's lives have been at risk, but when a bombshell from Sam's past returns to haunt her, she can't help but wonder if there's a connection. With a ruthless killer out for vengeance, and Nick struggling to maintain his reputation after secrets from his own past are revealed, Sam struggles to tie the threat to a murder that can't possibly be a coincidence. And she has to get it done before her husband's career is irrevocably damaged…
***Our Thoughts***
Kassiah: I’ve read bunches of Marie Force’s contemporary books and am a fan, so when I received the first several books in the Fatal series a couple of years ago, I quickly devoured them. Turns out, I like romantic suspense, too 😉
You already know the story from the summary, and it’s pretty spot-on. Sam is whisked away by the Secret Service while she’s investigating a homicide after a threat has been made against her husband and family. It’s thrilling and addicting and has a few twists that I didn’t expect. I loved the chemistry between Nick and Sam and had forgotten how much I love this guy! If you’re a fan of J.D. Robb’s In Death Series, you should definitely check this one out, too. I feel like those two couples could be friends.
If you’ve already read the other books in the series, you’re going to really love this one. Delving into Nick and Sam’s past will be a sweet (and hot) walk down memory lane. If this is your first foray into Fatal, no worries–I actually think this is a great book to just pick up and run with. You just won’t understand the history as much, but Force does a good job of keeping us in the loop.
One of the things that I like the most about the Fatal series is that the roles are sort of turned here. Sam is a detective–and a woman! I really like that she’s so fierce and yet so vulnerable where her husband, Nick, is concerned. It doesn’t hurt that Nick is the Vice President of the United States. *grin* I loved their dynamic and definitely felt their chemistry. I’ve always thought it was unrealistic for Sam to continue working as a detective after Nick was elected, but if you can suspend that belief, everything else is fantastic.
This might be the best book in the series as far as I’m concerned. If you’re into sexy romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat right up to the very end, you have to check out Marie Force’s Fatal Threat.
