Imperial Stout Layla Reyne

You already know how much we love Layle Reyne and her Agents Irish and Whiskey series, so we couldn’t contain our excitement when we got to sit down and chat with Nic and Cam, the main characters from her latest title, Imperial Stout, from her brand new Trouble Brewing spin-off series. We’ll get right to our interview with Nic and Cam, but stick around for all the 411 on the book after!

***INTERVIEW***

Thanks for stopping by Pretty Sassy Cool day, guys. We’re so excited for our readers to get to know you! So, Nic and Cam. You both have intense jobs. Nic, you’re an Assistant US Attorney and work closely with the FBI, and Cam you’re a kidnap and rescue agent. As such, we’re sure you’ve seen lots that would keep most people awake at night. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever had to do and why did you feel compelled to do it? And a follow-up, what do you do to decompress after a stressful day?

Cam: With K&R, it’s never easy to tell a family their loved one isn’t coming home. But I do it, and this job, because not knowing is a whole lot worse. As for decompressing, I know this guy who makes a great brew.

Nic: Gravity really is a blessing, and not just because of the beer. It’s a distraction, of the good sort, and it’s so far removed from my day-job. As an ex-SEAL, it’s hard sometimes to let the legal process do its work—at a snail’s pace—but I do it, every day, because the balance of justice and the rule of law are important and must be preserved. In my time as a SEAL, I saw places without the rule of law, up close and personal, and I never want to go back there or have my own country suffer the same fate.

*nods* Let’s talk trust for a minute. You both have a tight circle of people that you keep close to you. What does it take for you to trust someone? And once you’ve gained that trust, what does that mean to you?

Cam: I’m probably a little too quick to trust. Aside from a few missteps when I was younger, I’ve been lucky to have good people in my life. My family, my college teammates, my best friend, and the agents, prosecutors and other LEOs I’ve worked with. The job has tempered that some—often investigating abuses of power and trust—but I want to see the best in people. And once I trust you, you’re family.

Nic: I have a much harder time with trust—having seen it abused too often growing up. There were some bright spots, but I didn’t really learn to trust others until I joined the Navy, and it became a matter of life and death. And once you’ve earned my trust and vice versa, that’s exactly how far I’ll go to protect it.

😍 You two have worked together often, have known one another for some time now. Nic, tell us the one thing about Cam that you think is his greatest strength. And then his greatest weakness. And Cam, tell us the same about Nic.

Nic: I’d say Cam’s greatest strengths are his dedication and his loyalty. I’ve seen the lengths he goes to for his job, for his friends, for me, and that’s what makes him a good agent and friend. As for his greatest weakness, I’m gonna have to say his loyalty to Boston sports teams.

Cam: *Shoves his arm* Okay, Mr. Kings Fan. Mark that down as a weakness, along with the guilt-complex. He’d say the Kings’ miserable record was his fault if he could somehow prove it. But that same guilt, which is misplaced, does drive him to be the best man I know. That dogged determination—in how he lives his life and how he does his job—is his greatest strength.

Now for a few easy questions: What do you like to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon?

Cam: Hang out at Gravity, if Nic’s there, and drink his beer.

Nic: Argue about sports, whether we’re watching it at Gravity or at one of our places.

Do you think you’re a good kisser?

Cam: Ask him *winks at Nic*
Nic: Ask him *winks at Cam*

You guise. If you were going to cook for the other, what would you make?

Cam: A call to Jamie. And if he didn’t answer, corned beef hash in the cast iron skillet.

Nic: Coffee. Does that count?

It definitely counts. What’s your favorite–ass, eyes, or smile?

Cam: I have to choose?

Nic: Your answer is ass. You are an ass man.
Cam: *shrugs* He speaks the truth. His favorite is my smile.
Nic: I was gonna ask why your lips weren’t an option, but close enough.

Lips should definitely be an option. Last one: Boxers or Briefs? (Yes, we know it’s cliché, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to know!)

Cam: Boxers

Nic: Briefs

Well, there you have it. Thanks so much for chatting with us today, guys.

Layla Reyne spins off from her pulse-pounding Agents Irish and Whiskey books with Imperial Stout , the first installment in the Trouble Brewing series.

It’s a good thing assistant US attorney Dominic Price co-owns a brewery. He could use a cold one. Nic’s star witness has just been kidnapped, his joint operation with the FBI is in jeopardy, his father’s shady past is catching up with him and the hot new special agent in San Francisco is the kind of distraction best handled with a stiff drink.

Kidnap and rescue expert Cameron Byrne has his own ideas about how to handle Nic, but his skills are currently needed elsewhere. The by-the-book FBI agent goes deep undercover as a member of an infamous heist crew in order to save Nic’s witness, break up the crew and close the case before anyone else gets hurt. Nic in particular.

Things heat up when Cam falls for Nic, and the witness falls for Cam. As the crew’s suspicions grow, Cam must decide how far he’s willing to go—and how far into his own dark past he’s willing to dive—to get everyone out alive.

What do you think, Pretties? Are you as excited to get to know Nic and Cam as we are? Be sure to grab your copy of IMPERIAL STOUT today!
