Welcome to a new Week in Review. Each week, we’ll let you know what we’ve been reading and checking out, whether it’s books, movies, shows, or anything else š This week seems like the TV edition!
Sherry: I canāt believe the time is here and Fall TV has started. I checked my DVR and I have like 87 shows being recorded and that doesnāt include our second DVR with the āalternate showsā or the streaming shows. I already have like 5 shows I have to catch On Demand because there wasnāt room on the DVR. Whewwwwwwwww!
Outlander – OMG that wedding was EPIC. Check out the rest of my reaction in the weekly TV roundup on Monday.
Dancing with the Stars – Everythings looking good so far. I gotta say that Betsey Johnson is really impressing me with her agility and stamina at her age. Just shows you that itās the mind set. Sheās awesome and this weeks dance was sooooo sweet, I love that Tony brought out the Ginger Rogers in her and how much she loved it.
The Big Bang Theory – The gang is back – Love them! Sheldonās reaction to Pennyās hair – AWESOME!
Scorpion – New Show – I wasnāt sure if I was going to like this after I heard some negativity over it, but ultimately, I was very impressed. I really didnāt think I would like the whole āwaitressā thing, but I thought they did a great job of showing how they needed her for them to actually be able to relate to the real world. Favorite scene was when the guy picked the correct hard drive using his a psychological process of elimination in about 15 seconds. Love it. The airplane scene – a little far-fetched, but itās TV, I can live with it.
Gotham – New Show – Loved this pilot. Check out our brand new TV weekly roundup on Monday for more of my thoughts on this.
Forever – New Show – Honestly didnāt think I would like this show, but I really did. The pilot actually set up quite a few really intriguing plotlines that I want to watch for. Why canāt he die? Who is the other guy who canāt die? What happened to the woman he loved? Will he and the Detective Jo end up in a relationship? Iād say itās a great show to check out. Oh and every time Henry (main character who is immortal) dies, he is reborn naked and in water – what could go wrong?
The Blacklist – Pleaseeeeeeeee tell us how/if Red and Liz are related. I just want to know already. But, whew the season premiere was full on. Red has a wife who gets kidnapped and apparently will be delivered to Red – one piece at a time – Ughhhh. Not a good week for Red.
Utopia – NGL – I canāt not watch this show, but I just donāt see how it can stay interesting for an entire year. I swear though, it really does show how people without some sort of guidelines or government giving them some structure, really just canāt get it together quickly. These people are almost broke and itās been three weeks.
Chicago Fire – Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa View Spoiler » – Sobbbbbb. Love this show though.
Survivor – Letās get to know the new Survivors. Blood vs Water again. Exile Island is back. The first challenge a husband/wife had to go against each other for their tribe. Brutal! Itās just beginning, but as always a great epi.
Big Brother – Finale – Yayyyyy Derrick won. He is the best player Iāve ever seen play this game, and Iāve been watching since Season 2. He was never nominated and no one hated him. The only 2 votes Cody got were not for Cody but against Derrick and purely because apparently the resident preacher Jocasta, doesnāt know how to forgive and poor Donny obviously voted because Derrick hurt him too. But, Donny won Americaās Favorite and that was awesome! And Frankie wasnāt even in the top 3 for Americaās Favorite and that was awesome for the hubs and I because Frankie got on our last nerve by the end of the show. Talk about a Camera Hog and Shameless Self-Promoter and so on and so on, which is sad because we loved him in the beginning, but then he showed his Famewhoreness and just got ugly to us.
Dreams of Gods and Monsters – On a book note, you will all be happy to know that after what like 5 months, I finally finished DoGaM. As much as I love DoSaB and DoBaS, I was a little disappointed in this one. It sort of dragged on for me, and while her writing is still beautiful, I just felt like quite a bit of things were brought into the last book that while in the very end became important, if it had been completely left out the book still could have had the same ending. Speaking of ending – there is definitely room left for more, so I guess itās technically not over if she wants to write more. I know it might sound like I didnāt like it, but itās not that, it was satisfying but not AH-MAZING like the first two books, IMO.
Nothing pretty on this face yet so Iāve got nada for that. š
Betsy: OMG Sherry I have had DoGaM for awhile. I have not been able to read it. I want to, but am sort of terrified. I have been so disappointed in the third book in a trilogy lately. I just canāt tell you >>>points at Allegiant<<
Outlander: Welp, friends, the epic episode occurred last Saturday night. Iāve been waiting a long damn time for this one. I should probably say that I will give this a two part breakdown. When I first saw it, I was knocked sideways. Totally. Taken scene by scene it was so beautiful and perfect, buttttttt (and Iām not just referring to a certain body part which was ⦠fabulous) the back and forth timeline thingie made me dizzy. In fact, I thought if I was editing a written piece I would have said You Are Pulling Me Out of the Narrative. In any case, after 3 viewings I got over this and relaxed into the flow of it and it was fantastic. Both actors embodied these roles, especially Sam Heughan. He totally understands Jamie. Also, this man is beee ewwww teee fulllll.
Books/Reading: Am in the middle of reading Legend by Marie Lu. Have no idea how this turns out, but am really enjoying this book. Also reading Embrace by Jessica Shirvington. I love angel stories so this seemed right up my alley. So far very intrigued.
Also reading some fic as per usual. Still enjoying Rochelle Allisonās Sear WitFit which took a major plot twist this week, albeit, very well foreshadowed. Anton Mās Alaska. I really love this one. I love an awkward, sweet Edward and this one is all of that and more. Laughing my a** off at Girl Code by layathomemom.
Beauty: Nothing new on this front, though I did find one of my favorite fall and winter nail polishes. Good old Revlonās Vixen. I always get compliments when I wear it and I feel like a secret Goth girl.
Kassiah: I loved the Legend series, Betsy! I think you’ll really like it!
Sherry: Scandal – It was sooooo nice to see Olivia and those Gladiators. As always this show does not disappoint. Read more of my reaction on Mondayās TV wrap-up.
Greyās Anatomy – What a great epi about family. I see this as a possible threat throughout the season, with Meredith finding out she has a new sister (when will that happen – and I wonder if the fact that she lost Lexie make her hesitant to get close to another sister), then weāll have Richard revealing sheās his daughter (that should be interesting), then Iām sure Jackson and April will lots of family issues with their baby on the way, and Callie and Arizona will they or wonāt they have another baby – family issues everywhere. I really wonder what Bailey is going to do when she doesnāt get the seat on the board because I think thereās no way they canāt let Alex have it. NGL I love that Christina gave it to Alex. I see Alex continuing his growing up path. The scene on the roof looked so fake, I sorta hate when that happens, I know they donāt have those big budgets but sometimes itās just really bad and this was one of those times. But, that gurney going over the roof onto the van with the kids having sex in it — goodtimes! Those awkward cases are the ones I love on Greyās. I thought season 11 started out great.
Nashville – Boooooooooooo Rayna chooses Luke over Deacon. I realize thatās how these shows work. They have to keep Rayna and Deacon apart, but ughhhh come on, itās so obvious they need to be together. Kill me now if I they make it to the alter. Juliette pregnant – who didnāt see that coming. Poor thing, she really does just make bad decisions. I sort of like her now though. My favorite is Scarlett and Iām happy to see her not leaving. I swear I think she sings like an angel and I always buy her songs on iTunes. I sort of wish she would get back together with Gunnar. I really feel bad for Will, heās in for a rough ride this season. I hope they write a good story though for him coming out and it not being as bad as he thinks. Fingers crossed on that one.
Red Band Society – Second epi was better I thought. Iāll keep watching. I really feel for all of these kids. It is interesting watching how they deal with each other in all of these different crises.
Law & Order – SVU – Human-trafficking – what a horrible topic. This epi was a doozy, like mafia style hits on all the witnesses. Of course, they figured out the head honcho and in the end he got a bullet to the chest. Probably a good thing.
Books – I also started reading Gone Girl this week and Iām already 15% into it, which is good for me. Iām actually hoping that I might get it done or really close to being done by next week when the movie comes out. Iām going on vacay next week, so I might be able to pull it off if I can get a couple of days reading on the beach before we take our annual trip to Downtown Disney to have a movie day on our vacay. Fingers crossed!
How to Get Away with Murder – #TGIT is in full effect and Iāve been waiting for this show ALL SUMMER. I couldnāt get Viola Davis saying, āHow to get away with murder,ā out of my mind the entire summer and now itās here. The show was fantastic as expected when it comes from Shonda Rhimes. It started out with 4 students obviously trying to figure out what to do with a dead body. Then while they are making the decision of whether to bury it, burn it, leave it, there are flashbacks over three months to get you to this time and place. You have no idea who the murder victim is until the last second and I was shocked, I donāt think I had expected it to be the person it was. I had a lot of theories in that hour, but that wasnāt one of them – sooooo yayyy to the writers for that one. Needless to say, I loved the show, I loved Viola Davis (as always) and I loved the courtroom drama along with the personal drama. The show exploded with a multitude of great storylines to come. Must see!
