Welcome to a new Week in Review. Each week, we’ll let you know what we’ve been reading lately, whether it’s super steamy Romance, our latest Young Adult obsession, or anything in between. We’ll tell you what we love and what falls short for us, too. Without further adieu, here’s what we’ve been reading this week:
Betsy: Doing a bit of a drive-by here. What did I read this week? Hmm *scratches head*. My summary of my reading of Red Rising: struggle, struggle and more struggle for me and the character. I just know this thing is going to kill me.
Also read How to Love by Katie Cotugno. Mixed feelings about this one. Loved, loved, loved Reena. Strong, brave, practical except when it comes to Sawyer. I never really connected to him. Of course part of the problem is that we see him only through Reena’s eyes and she’s clearly gaga over him, but as a reader, while I understand crushing, I never really got what the big deal was. So while I liked the way that it turned out, I really didn’t understand where the swoon came in. The other problem with the POV is that I felt there was much more to Sawyer’s story, but didn’t get to see it. Overall, I liked it, but didn’t love it.
Read a sequel to a book I hated (the first book I mean). LOL. Ordinary World by Elisa Lorello is the sequel to her novel Faking It. So Faking It made me ragey. I loved the characters and she did a great job building them and their relationship, only to pull the rug out at the end and have the heroine commit to another guy. Cue ragey flailing. So it was with some trepidation that I picked this one up. I think I will retitle this ‘The Book Where Elisa Lorello Sort of Redeemed Herself’. LOL. This one is filled with Andi’s grief, but OMFG she finally gets together with Dev, the guy from the first book. It just took a lot of traveling and grieving to get there. 🙂
Picked up a Christine Feehan book, Dark Wolf, part of her Lycan series which I will review in a week or two. So far am liking. More to come…
Kassiah: I keep meaning to read How to Love, and I don’t know why I haven’t yet. I’m still in crazytown and can’t even tell you all the things I’ve read, but I have been reading LOL Right now I’m reading Game for Marriage by Karen Erickson and I’m loving it so far. Next up, I’m reading Alienated by Melissa Landers and I’m pretty excited about that 🙂
