Welcome back to our Week in Review. Each week, we’ll let you know what we’ve been reading lately, whether it’s super steamy Romance, our latest Young Adult obsession, or anything in between. We’ll tell you what we love and what falls short for us, too. We took a little hiatus over December and we missed you! Without further adieu, here’s what we’ve been reading this week:
Sandi:: I finished Through the Fire by Beth Trissel and give it three and three-quarter stars on the Sandi-Sliding-Scale. Points deducted for the use of a manipulative heroine who uses her body and sweet smile to distract and attract the men around her. That she does this in order to survive, I understand, but it irritated me. Points added for a hot and sexy hero who fell in love despite himself. I also read The Honorable Imposter by Gilbert Morris. What? A Christian Romance? Well…yeah. It’s the first book in Morris’s House of Winslow series and it takes place at the crossing of the Mayflower and the political intrigue that happens before. Gilbert Winslow could definitely be considered a steamy kind of guy—even if the confines of the genre don’t let the reader SEE that, exactly.
I also just re-read Mr. Darcy’s Diary by Amanda Grange. While not technically “steamy”, we do get a plausible look into the mind of one of Romance’s Great Heroes. Grange does a great job with getting into Darcy’s head and…hey, he has eyes, doesn’t he? If you want a much steamier adventure of this nature, please read Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife by Linda Berdoll. This one has numerous steamy scenes if that is what you crave. 😉
I have started, just this year, Dragonfly in Amber, by Diana Gabaldon. I read Outlander quite some time ago and tried to read the sequel, but couldn’t manage it. However, after much prompting from several sources, I am trying again. And I’m really liking Roger Wakefield, upon further acquaintance. 🙂
Kassiah:I love the Sandi-Sliding Scale 🙂 I haven’t read anything with Mr. Darcy because I always think “he” won’t compare to the original! I know a lot of people love Gabaldon, so I can’t wait to see what you have to say about Dragonfly in Amber.
I’ve been reading a million zillion things. Well, not really, but lots. We start posting reviews again tomorrow! and I’ve been reading January titles like crazy. Next week, we’re posting reviews for a bunch of books I read over the last couple of weeks, including Rumor Has It by Elisabeth Grace (swoony hip-hop star), Rome by Jay Crownover (smexy soldier), Hope Flames by Jaci Burton (holy hot cop, batman), Falling for Her Fiancé by Cindi Madsen (sexy daredevil), and Reforming the Playboy by Inara Scott (flailworthy brooding artist). Whew! That’s a lot of rippling muscles to take in, ladies, and I’m not even mentioning all the awesome YA reviews we’re posting over at Swoony Boys Podcast.
We’ll also be posting the review for Mischief and Mistletoe that you read, Sandi, since we didn’t want to overwhelm our readers with our massive Holiday promo. Almost all of those giveaways end on Sunday (January 5), so ya’ll still have time to enter! We extended a couple of the giveaways since they somehow missed their scheduled posting time. This year is already so awesome!!
