Reclusive magazine exec Ethan Talley is furious when his business partner hires a photographer—a gorgeous photographer who insists on speaking her mind, damn it—to take pictures for an upcoming article. No matter how badly he wants the woman…under him, over him, against the nearest wall…he has reasons for not wanting to be on camera anymore, and his scars are only one of them.

It takes approximately two seconds for Lissa Kingsman to recognize Ethan as the popular YouTube gamer who fell off the planet years ago. But this Ethan is different than the charming man she used to watch, and the crush she had on him then is nothing compared to the way she’s lusting after the brooding man he is today. If sex is all he can give her, fine. Why not use that bearskin rug in her studio for something other than a prop? But she’s determined to put a chink in his armor, no matter how much he resists.

Erin: It’s always such a bittersweet moment when a beloved series from a favorite author comes to close, but as the saying goes, “All good things must end.” It is with sniffles that we say goodbye to the Gamers series. But boy, did Megan Erickson end this one with a bang (or a glitter bomb!) Leveling the Field was so much fun. And seeing how much we have loved Ethan, it was so fabulous and fitting that he gets his time to shine in the final book!

Ethan Talley is our favorite kind of hero. Gruff and brooding, with a hard exterior and a soft, mushy center. A dirty mouth, a sarcastic wit, and a dry sense of humor is ALWAYS a combination impossible to resist. But Ethan has a reason to be the way he is. Gorgeous and feisty photographer Lissa Kingsman has a reason to have her walls up as well. And when these two cross paths at a photo shoot for Gamers Magazine, well the sparks start flying immediately. Lissa recognizes something in Ethan, something that she wants to capture on film and include in her exhibit to honor her late sister. Not just the scars on his face, but something deeper. And when she realizes he’s the reclusive E-Rad from YouTube, well, she can’t help but be drawn in even more.

And these two, omg. The chemistry. The dirty talk. The banter. THE PRANKS! They were so SO much fun. I haven’t come across anyone who can dirty talk like these two in quite some time.

When Lissa pushed her mostly empty plate away and rubbed her stomach, he laughed softly. “Had enough?”

“Oh, I’m going to need to do some extra cardio after that meal.”

“Hmm, I happen to know a really great cardio plan.”

She hesitated then lifted a corner of her mouth. “Oh yeah?”

“It involves no clothes and typically some sort of penetration.”

She sputtered. “I knew that was coming, and it still made me laugh.”

“Well, there aren’t many where that came from, so don’t get used to it.”

But there’s much more to these two than just being gorgeous and having super hot sex. Both are damaged. Both are looking for that one thing or person to help them move past their anger and grief. When these two really start communicating and opening up to one another it’s really something. Sweet and romantic and heartfelt, I thought their relationship was so real and true and besides Chad and Owen, my favorite of the series.

This series has been a total win from beginning to end and just shows how talented Megan Erickson truly is and proves why she is one of our very favorite authors. Strong characters, tight, well thought out plots without any extraneous drama or over the top actions, steamy, emotional sex scenes, and lots and lots of witty, snarky banter … her books have something for everyone. Be sure you don’t miss out, you’ll be sorry if you do!
