The New York Times bestselling author of the Out of Line Novels takes readers to Boston, where one gang of criminals knows how being bad can be so good...

She knows what he’s like on Boston’s mean streets. Now she’s going to find out if he’s got some heart.

Lucas Donahue is not ashamed of his criminal past, but after a brief stint in prison, he’s ready to go legit and live a normal life. The problem is, no one leaves the gang without permission—even if he is one of the boss’s top men. Plus someone’s placed a hit on him. And then there’s that feisty little bartender who’s going to cause him even more trouble.

Heidi Greene knows to keep her distance from a ladies’ man like Lucas—even if she can’t keep her eyes off him. When he rescues her from an attack in the alley outside her bar, she’s forced to stay by his side for safety. But the longer she spends time with him, the greater her chances are for getting hurt in more ways than one.

Kassiah: Even though this book didn’t hit shelves until February 2016, it was one of my favorites of 2015 since that’s when I read it. I loved this book!

When Lucas Donahue gets out of prison, all he wants is a peaceful life away from the Sons of Steel Row gang he’s been a pivotal member of for practically his whole life. Trouble is, membership in the Sons of Steel Row is for life, and he doesn’t really have a choice in leaving. When he steps in and helps Heidi, the bartender across the street, when she’s being brutally attacked by the Sons’ sworn enemies, he sets a domino affect into motion. Now he’s got to stake claim on her to protect her, meaning he stays with the Sons.

Heidi isn’t looking for a bodyguard, especially one as dominant and overbearing as Lucas. When things get real and they realize both of their lives are in danger, will she give in and let him protect her? How long will it take for them to give in to the blazing hot chemistry between them?

Not long, Pretties.

Like I said, this was one of my favorite books of 2015, and I’m sure the next one will be a favorite, too. More on that in a sec. I loved these characters, I loved this storyline, and I loved every minute of this book. The setting is great–even though you’re in the underworld of the Boston crime scene, I think McLaughlin captured the ambiance perfectly. As far as the gang procedures go, the raw intensity of the storyline and anxiousness was spot-on.

Now let’s talk about my favorite part: Lucas.

Lucas is swoony

He’s hot. He’s alpha. He’s risking his own life to protect someone he barely knows. And not in the devil-may-care-I-don’t-give-a-shit-about-my-life-way. He does it because it’s the right thing to do. Falling for her was just a bonus. 😉 I love how protective he is of his brother, too. I want to say stuff here about that, but I can’t.

There are twists and turns in the storyline that you will never see coming. I am so surprised by how original this story is! If you love gritty, intense guys and sassy heroines with fresh storylines and secondary characters that will keep you guessing, do yourself a favor and don’t miss out on Dare to Run by Jen McLaughlin. And go ahead and pre-order the next book in the series. You already know you want to read it.
