Jordan’s Return by Samantha Chase

***INTERVIEW***

Thanks for stopping by to chat with us today, Samantha. We’re big fans of yours

Aww…thank you! So happy to be here today!!

Tell us a little about Jordan’s Return. Was it a fun book to write?

Jordan’s Return was the first book I ever published back in 2011. I was so unprepared for the whole process! I had no idea how to format and market and I was basically a hot mess. But…it’s the story of a woman who is overcoming an abusive marriage and trying to get her life back on track. She’s got two sons who are her whole world and she takes them on a month-long trip to Virginia Beach to start to figure out what their lives are going to be like now that she’s rid of her ex. The last thing she counts on is running into Rob Tyler – her first love and the first guy to ever break her heart. Basically it’s about love and second chances. It’s really the book of my heart. And I wouldn’t say it was fun to write – there are a lot of fun scenes but there’s a lot of issues that Jordan has to deal with that were serious in nature. It was an educational book to write, let’s say that! Lol!

We totally get it. This book deals with some very real, difficult topics. What kind of research did you have to do to make the story seem believable?

It’s funny how common some things are in your life and you don’t realize just how bad they are. Jordan is the victim of domestic violence and I grew up around that. My mom was a single mom and she did an amazing job with me and my sister. So it wasn’t that there was a lot of research as there was just sort of remembering situations. Ours wasn’t as bad as Jordan’s, but abuse is still abuse. And I always remember her talking about the struggle as a single mom when it came to dating and how she needed to be careful about what kind of influence she brought around us.

*nods* How would you introduce Jordan to readers?

She’s a woman over-coming a lot of obstacles but she’s strong and determined and loves her children fiercely. She’s a survivor.

We really like her. Now, tell us about Rob. We want to know all the things!

Rob is a compilation of every unattainable hot guy in high school. Lol! But he’s nice too! Granted, not so much back when he and Jordan dated – he did screw that one up – but now he’s a man who is all about wanting to settle down and have a wife and kids. He’s willing to accept that he’s screwed up in the past and wants to make things right – especially with Jordan because she’s the one who got away.

*sigh* If you could introduce one of your characters to another character from any other book, who would it be and why?

Interesting question! Okay let’s see…I would probably want to introduce Bill – who was a secondary character in Love Walks In to Rose who is William Montgomery’s assistant in the Montgomery Brothers series. I think that could open the way for a great crossover and some interesting business deals!

Great choice, Samantha. How would you describe yourself in three words?

Sassy, snarky and genuine. Interesting combination, right?

Perfect! What is the one thing readers would be surprised to learn about you?

I am a total homebody. I don’t travel very much at all. I like sleeping in my own bed too much and the places I go to are generally close to home.

We are, too! What is your most anticipated upcoming book-to-screen adaptation?

Honestly? I’m not a huge fan of the book-to-screen adaptations. At least, none that are in the works. I think there are so many great books out there that could be done into fabulous movies! But so far, they’re not. But (and this is a shameless plug) I would LOVE to see my book The Christmas Cottage on the Hallmark Channel. That is the dream – if anyone’s listening!

We would, too! What advice can you give to aspiring writers?

Write what you love and DON’T follow the trends! It shows in your writing when you are creating and writing what you love. It may not always be the popular trend or genre, but the quality of work will be so much better.

Great advice. Which character makes you swoon the most (yours or someone else’s)?

There are several who have been too swoon-worthy to forget! James Paden from Sandra Brown’s 22 Indigo Place is a favorite along with Rafe Mackade from Nora Roberts’ The Return of Rafe Mackade. And Dr. Simon Bradley from Susan Mallery’s Only Yours. As for mine? Zach Montgomery was a biggie and so is Quinn Shaughnessy from my upcoming book Always My Girl.

We haven’t heard of some of those, but we love Dr. Simon Bradley. And of course Zach Montgomery is always a favorite of ours. *fans self* Do you have any current or future projects you can tell us about?

Currently I have two new releases out – Friday Night Brides and Going My Way?. Friday Night Brides is more women’s fiction than romance – even though there is a lot of romance in it. The story focuses on four best friends during this one season in their lives and it’s really about the bonds of friendship. Going My Way? is a novella that is part of Erin Nicholas’ Sapphire Falls Kindle World. It’s a cute and sassy story and so damn fun that I can’t say enough about it!! It takes place during the annual Sapphire Falls town festival and if you’ve read Erin’s series, you know how fun that is all on its own.

Is there ever anything that you always wish someone would ask you, but they never do?

Hmm…I don’t know. I get asked a lot of stuff – some of it really crazy! And sometimes a little TMI! But I guess it would be cool for someone to ask the first time I held one of my books in my hands. When I was first starting out, I primarily did ebooks only (I’m terrible at formatting paperbacks). But when I signed on with Sourcebooks and that first box of books arrived? I cried so damn hard. It was almost embarrassing and I think my husband and son had no idea what to do with me. But it was really like holding a dream in your hands.

Thanks again for coming by, Samantha. We can’t wait to get our ::grabbyhands:: on Jordan’s Return!

Thanks for having me!!!

***About Samantha Chase***

Author Samantha ChaseNew York Times and USA Today Bestseller/contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan’s Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her 40’s to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well.

When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, playing way too many games of Scrabble or Solitaire on Facebook and spending time with her husband of 25 years and their two sons in North Carolina.
